upgrade toshiba satellite m645-s4115? or buy new laptop?

I'm torn over rather I should upgrade my 4 year old toshiba satellite laptop or upgrade to a newer machine. The laptop needs a new battery and I was considering getting an SSD as well to increase the performance. The laptop has an intel i5 m 480 processor and 4GB of ram. Should I bother upgrading a laptop this old?
