Upgrade without reinstalling to a UEFI motherboard?

My current system is an ASUS M4A79T plus AMD Phenom ii x3 with a standard PC BIOS. I am planning to upgrade the motherboard to either an ASUS M5A97 or M5A99 with and FX 83xx series CPU.

I don't want to reintall Win 7 Pro. but I am not familiar with the BIOS related requests windows makes post boot.

Ideally, will Windows do the right thing or will it bomb out?

it will bomb out if you dont do a minimum of a repair install when you replace something like a motherboard.
but honestly the best thing is a fresh install to ensure best stability.
