I have been having gaming issues with low fps and laggy gameplay. Because of these issues i have spending less time gaming and more time trying to find a solution, so i spent allot of time trying to figure it out and i have tried almost everything i have been told or could think of. Due to this large hassle I have wondered if my cpu is not quite as good at gaming as i thought it might have been when i got it 2 years ago, would it be easier just to upgrade to a Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge and save allot of hassle and not have to upgrade later but now. I recently upgraded to a 7970 and not getting the performance i want presumably because of the cpu. I think upgrading my cpu would increase my fps and give me smoother gameplay, what do you guys think?

specs:
AMD Phenom II X6 3.3 GHz Processor
AMD Sapphire HD 7970 Vapor-X GHz edition
8 gigs of DDR3 ram
Asus M5A97 motherboard
1000W silent Pro

For now you need to overclock that cpu to 3.8ghz, should help a bit.

But basically yes, that cpu is holding you back.

What is your budget for the upgrades?
