I have 8gb Ram DDR3 666 MHz, and i need to upgrade to 16gb. what should i do? buy 2 slots of 8gb and forget about the old ram?

My motherboard is : ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Z87-PRO (SOCKET 1150)

My CPU: Intel Core i7 4770K @ 3.50GH

what ram memory should i buy to be compatible with my motherboard?

There's no such thing as DDR3 666mhz. It's most likely DDR3 1333mhz.

For best compatibility get 2x*8GB DDR3 1600mhz kit.

Or you could get another module of DDR3 1333mhz 8GB, but this way you may run into ram compatibility problems. It may work, may require manual tweaking of ram parameters in BIOS or may fail to work completely. It's bit of a gamble.

Memory: Patriot - Viper 3 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($74.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $74.99
