I have an HP Pavillion a1710n running a Nvidia geforce 6150le. What are my best options for an upgrade?

I think you are limited by your psu. It is probably a 300W. Maybe a AMD HD 6670.

You may want to wait til the HD 7000 series, there's supposed to be a 60w card that's better than an HD 6770/5770 coming out around the holidays. That would work in your system and have 2x the power of an HD 6670.
