I have become woefully aware that I have fallen behind the times in computer components, increases of their abilities, and system configuration abilities, pros, and cons. With the upcoming release of Windows 10, as I understand it is meant to be everything Windows 8 would have been, I wish to build a system to run with that OS. There is plenty of time for me to accrue the parts for this system. I am aware of price fluctuations, new parts constantly flooding the market, and that patience is a virtue. Most importantly, I greatly appreciate your time and assistance, your expertise and knowledge. I look forward to discussing and sharing with you as this process goes on.
Approximate Purchase Date: Unknown - dependent upon likelihood of components changing, becoming better as I move closer to completion / release of Windows 10.
Budget Range: $1000 - $1200.00 This will be purchased part by part as I can afford it, and assembled once all parts are acquired so I am aware that adjustments will most likely need to be made over time.
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Current High End gaming with an eye towards future High End gaming, Movies, Music, Surfing.
Are you buying a monitor: Yes, but I will be using HDMI to watch movies on a television and possibly even for gaming.
Parts to Upgrade: N/A..Completely new build.
Do you need to buy OS: I will purchase a copy of Windows 7 very soon. I will wait a bit when Windows 10 comes out to see how it goes before I invest in it.
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Reliability and objectivity are my main concerns, pricing is secondary.
Location: Central Pennsylvania, USA
Parts Preferences: For me it boils down to how "open"a part is to working with other parts. If component will not work with anything other than something exactly the same (or from the same maker), I am less inclined to purchase it. There are a billion different opinions out there on which make of each component is better than the other. Ultimately I will rely on advice, some research on the advised components, and comparisons.
Overclocking: Proper purchase should negate the need to overclock, so No.
SLI or Crossfire: Maybe, dependent on cost and effect it would have on gaming performance. There will only be one screen used so that is not a factor in the equation.
Your Monitor Resolution: Mid Range...Gaming and Movies done on television so monitor will be for surfing, etc.
Additional Comments: I would prefer a quieter system, with ample cooling so I don't have to worry about overheating. HDMI port is mandatory, 2 USB 3.0 ports is plenty, but more is fine, 1 CD/DVD/Blu-Ray-RW Drive, no special effects are necessary on the case, appearance is secondary to functionality. I would like a secondary HDD for back-up purposes. Quality Sound Card, WiFi card, SD card slot.
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I started using laptops for mobility reasons and was migrating away from gaming. Then I purchased an XBox 360 and realized I still had a love for gaming, and that gaming was getting much better and obviously it will always be better on a computer. With tablets becoming what they are there is no longer a need to own a laptop and a properly built and upgradeable desktop eliminates the need for a gaming console. Therefore, I can focus my resources on one item, and get back into a hobby I used to thoroughly enjoy.
