Upgraded computer and worked fine for 1 day. Next day, starts for a couple seconds before shutting off.

Hi guys,

I recently upgraded my PC to the followng:

ASROCK Z170 MOBO
INTEL I5-6600K
2 X 8GB CORSAIR DDR4
HYPER EVO 212 COOLER

I am still using the existing parts from my old build:

CORSAIR CX500 PSU
STRIX GTX 970
DVD DRIVE (from an old Dell Inspiron)

The upgrade was fairly uneventful. Everything went as expected, I reinstalled windows etc(as I had previously been an AMD user) and enjoyed my new PC that night. I wasn't using it for anything demanding, just some Runescape and Netflix really.

The next morning I went to turn it on and it booted up, but I got NO DISPLAY showing on my monitor. I was also unable to turn my PC back off via the power button, so had to switch it off the PSU switch on the back.

I checked my video cables on the back and then powered it back on. This time the monitor displayed nothing at all and the fans powered up for a couple of seconds before it shut off completely.

This is what its been doing ever since. Ive tried reseating things individually. Checked all my cables. Tried with 1 stick of RAM and no GPU. Still, it just turns itself off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't understand why it worked fine for 1 day but hasn't worked since.

Thanks!

Testing the RAM was my first idea. So this is definitely a hardware problem, but it might be difficult to pinpoint where the issue is. So let's try with something easy, do you have a spare PSU laying around? Did you have a power outage recently?

Unfortunately I don't have a spare PSU. Im not aware of any power outages. I shut down the computer as I normally would that night.

Then boof, nothing in the morning. I may be able to source a PSU off of a friend.
