I just upgraded to a 3070 from a 1660. I made sure to uninstall all the drivers than reinstall the 3070 drivers. When I open task manager, geforce experience, and CPU-Z they all say 3070. so i am 100% using the card. But when I play games it feels worst or about the same as my 1660 For Example when i play a game like fortnite (on all low settings) I drop below 100fps about half the time. For a 3070 on low graphics on a game like fortnite shouldn't i be expected to run atleast +144? im getting about the same fps as was with the 1660 ,but when i look it up the 3070 seems to be almost 2x better. Why is this? any help would be very appreciated

Specs: ryzen 7 2700x, 3070, 32gb ram

With a 2700x the board is almost certainly pcie 3.0 however there should be very little performance difference even if it is.

What are your full system specs including power supply and resolution you are playing at?

People on here seem to be doing ok at 1440p.

But perhaps the cpu is holding your gpu back a little? However if you’ve got a power supply that’s not up to snuff the power supply may not be feeding the gpu enough power. I’ll let some of the others weigh in. Depending on your board though you’ve likely for options to update the bios and install a newer cpu like a 5700x that should really boost performance.

Why would you upgrade your GPU if you play on low settings? If you want higher fps on low settings, upgrade your CPU. Low-settings place the bottleneck on the CPU instead of the GPU. Get yourself a Ryzen 7 5700X or 5800X 3D.

Personally, I'd reinstall windows. Download all the latest drivers from your motherboard onto a thumb drive and get the win 11 media creation tool and make a bootable usb drive from it. Then put a folder on it (after windows is installed on the usb) call it drivers and drop all your motherboard drivers on it. Then re-install win 11 fresh with everything MINT. You'll see night and day difference in my opinion.
