I just swapped out my old motherboard the Fm2A78 pro 3+ and CPU the AMD 860k for the Giabyte ga-990fxa-ud3 ultra am3 and the AMD fx 8350 CPU.

From what I can see, all of my connections are sound. Everything is plugged in as it was in my old motherboard. On startup everything turns on, hard drive, ssd, gpu, and cpu fan. The issue is that no signal is being sent to my monitor, so it remains on standby mode. I read on another post that best thing to do is boot without the gpu installed, but I can't see an onboard video port for my motherboard so I don't know where to go now. Another thing that could be important is that the fans on my GPU keep starting and starting for a few seconds and then stopping every 10-20 seconds. This did not happen with my old motherboard

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if any further information is needed I can give it.

I have the EVGA GTX 950 ssc acx 2.0. All of my parts are comparable with the psu

i think you have to update the bios to latest version. to support cpu and gpu. doe you do not have onboard gpu to do this as your gpu. the bios needs updated. this can be done by getting an earlier cpu. there is a sticker on the mobo that tells you the bios v.

Im not sure what you mean about getting an earlier CPU to upgrade the BIOS. How would i even go about updating the BIOS.

EDIT: I just uninstalled the new parts and re installed the previous ones and everything works correctly so i believe that i can make the assumption there is no issue in the GPU, rather it is coming from the mobo.

how can i even upgrade the BIOS if i cant even get a posting to my monitor?

Sorry, should have done that from the start

OLD SETUP:
CPU: AMD 860k
GPU: EVGA GTX 950 SSC
MOBO: AsRock Fm2A78 pro 3+
PSU: Thermaltake Smart 650W 80+ bronze

NEW SETUP
CPU: AMD fx 8350
GPU: EVGA GTX 950 SSC
MOBO: Giabyte ga-990fxa-ud3 ultra am3
PSU: Thermaltake Smart 650W 80+ bronze

EDIT: I have an SSD and HDD installed as well, i didnt think specifics about those were necessary though.
This is the link to my old build if it could be of some help

No, When i turn the PC on, nothing is displayed. The monitor remains in standby mode. Its almost as if the monitor is in 'sleep' mode and i would have to wake it up by moving my mouse or something, but ive tried that but nothing seems to happen. The mouse and keyboard im using have LEDs on them but none of those turn on when i turn the PC on either. I have them plugged in to the back UBS ports

i had thought the same my self how are you able to update bios if nothing is posting no display and it does not have onboard gpu.

MOBO: Giabyte ga-990fxa does your old CPU: AMD 860k come on post in the new mobo and does it display anything when the 980 is installed. Compatibility Notes

Some AMD A78 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Kaveri CPUs. in pcpartpicker

His old CPU is not compatible with the new motherboard: old CPU is Socket FM2+, new motherboard is Socket AM3+, FM2+ <> AM3+.

So...it sounds like you're hearing the system POST, but you aren't getting a video signal from your GPU, even though it (still) works in the old system, & (I'm assuming) you're still using the same monitor & cable. Did you make sure you put it into slot 1 (marked "PCIEX16_1" on the board)? If so, did you try slot 2 just in case? Did you verify that all of your power connectors are good? Do you have a spare GPU (or one you can borrow from a friend) to test?

If you do all of this & it's still not working...then it sounds like you may have a defective board, & will need to RMA it or take it back to the store.

I tried both PCIE x 16 ports on the board. I double checked all my power connections. I dont have a spare GPU, but i know that the issue is not in the GPU. I re installed the old parts with the GPU to double check and everything works fine. THe motherboard and CPU were bought from a friend who had been using them without issues for more than a few years.
