I've been using the 2 4gb DDr3 chips that came in a PC i bought on ebay a long time ago, I just upgraded to 2 8gb 1600 mhz HyperX Fury (1600 so i can upgrade to 32 gb on my 8350).

I'm curious though, is there likely to be any realistic difference in my gaming or video rendering moving from 8 to 16gb of ram?

Solution
personally for me editing in premiere pro it way quicker i cant even describe, i use around 13GB ram when editing and then goes down to about 10GB when exporting, the extra ram will also allow you to have photoshop or aftereffects open in the background or play some sort of game while the rendering finishes, also faster clocked RAM will help. dont know how much of a difference 32GB will make though

Gaming no. There are one or two of the newest unreleased titles recommending 16GB if you have multiple high end video cards and want to max the game at 4K. Otherwise the difference between 8GB and 16GB is negligible.

You might see some real improvements in rendering depending on what program you use. It will help with multitasking when you're doing intensive stuff like rendering as well.
