Hi,

So I bought a Core2 Quad 9400 to replace my old Core2 Duo 6750. My mobo is a Asus P5E. Tried booting my comp up: nothing. A black screen. No beeps either.

I freaked out, thought I had damaged my mobo when removing the CPU fan. I double checked to make sure I didn't cause some weird case grounding, took out the new CPU and then put it back in. Same issue.

I put my old CPU back in, and voila, back to normal.

Any ideas what's going on? The P5E is supposed to work with Quad core, and they both are LGA 775. Thanks.

Do you have the BIOS updated? Might need to make sure your BIOS version handles the Quad.

Sometimes, it's good to reset the CMOS when changing CPU's.

Make sure the CPU fan is connected to the correct spot on the motherboard.
