Question Upgraded To I9 9900 from I7 8700k and now windows won’t boot

I have a z390 Phantom gaming-itx motherboard . I got a great deal on the 9900 and decided to upgrade. Upgrade was going smooth until I turned on pc and windows goes to will not boot correctly. If I restart after that I get no signal on monitor but if I boot to bios first then exit it will go back to the windows will not boot and give the advanced options which never work for me. Any ideas?

The i9-9900 is a new processor. You may need a bios update.

I would double check your mobo supports the new processor. If it does, chances are you will have to pop back in the old CPU, download the new bios update and put back in the 9900 after.

you did mention you have a z390 board so there shouldnt be a needed BIOS update.

1st off are you sure that the cpu you got actually works in the first place?

2nd what is your full system specs.

You need bios level 4.0 to support a 9900.
Check your bios level on the bios main section.

He said 9900 not 9900K, so if he's right then that is a new CPU and does require a BIOS update.

The 8700K has been supported from day 1.
9900 needs 4.0
9900K has two varieties one is 1.2 the other is 4.0

Yes, because the 9900K was released in 2018 with the Z390 chipset, and the 9900 was release in 2019. So they had to update the chipset to recognize it.
