Question Upgraded to Ryzen 3600 but Slow Performance (from 200GE and i5-8300h)

I upgraded my PC from Athlon 200GE to Ryzen 3600 with intel 660p m.2 512GB and RX 570.
Overall spec is:
16GB DDR4 3000
AB350 Pro4
Windows 10 fresh installation with software updates
BIOS updated
500W

On New Ryzen, application performance like chrome, office, menu navigation is still sluggish. I felt the same on 200GE.
I have a laptop i5 8300H with 1050 ti and it is pretty snappy, responsive. I have had i3 2100 years ago and it was very responsive too.

Ultimately, I am sometimes editing 4k video in HitFilm program.
-200GE, any videos, very choppy, unable to edit
-8300h, pretty smooth below 120mbps but choppy from 200mbps, barely able
-3600, choppy even from 120mbps

Any additional setup is needed as per new CPU installation?

I have a Core i5 3570K with Asus RX 570 4GB. Still good performance. Mobo is Asus P8Z77-I deluxe, looks like Asrock mobo sucks BIG TIME.

Rarely, doubtful it's the problem for you. Did you install AMD chipset drivers? What is max CPU/GPU temp?

Thank you for help.

I just installed b350 chipset driver and checked cpu temps while navigating 4k videos in the program. Still choppy.
CPU temp hit 69 degree often but not over it.
Feels like the program was not optimized for Ryzen or AMD products.

Chrome is still lagging more than 8300h.


There is any other configuration to be checked?

If other programs like Chrome and Office are also slow I'm not sure you can chalk it up to just being your video editing software not being optimized for AMD.

You installed the latest drivers for your RX 570 from AMD's website? How full is the SSD on your PC? What kind of storage do you have in the laptop?

I installed both adrenalin 19.9.2 from AMD website and 19.10.1 from Asrock website. None of them really improved the performance.
SSD got only 20gb/512gb.
My laptop has Intel 760p Series NVMe PCIe M.2 256GB

Huh, not really sure what it could be then. For you video editing software it could come down to it preferring Nvidia GPUs over AMD GPUs, but there is no good reason for your desktop to be performing poorly in basic tasks like browsing and Office.

The only thing I could think of would be to clear CMOS, make sure BIOS is up to date, and do a clean install of Windows + all drivers. But it sounds like you already did those last two.

I ran userbenchmark. It shows that everything was above expectation.
Let me compare video files by bitrate in two systems.

1. laptop: i5-8300h / 1050 ti / 8gb RAM / 256 SSD

-80 mbps: smooth

-120 mbps: little choppy but still usable

-200 mbps: very lagging / choppy

2. desktop: Ryzen 3600 / RX 570 / 16GB RAM / 512 SSD

-80 mbps: smooth

-120 mbps: lagging / choppy

-200 mbps: very lagging / choppy (maybe, worse than 8300h)

Hello,

This issue was resolved after graphic card was upgraded to GTX 1660.
Actually, CPU was downgraded to 9400F for a reason, tho.
Much smoother on 200 mbps videos now.


I think that, in terms of video editing, Radeon performs worse than Geforce in similar price range or tier.
