[SOLVED] upgradeing to a 3090 on an i7 7700k

Im on an i7 7700k with a 1080ti. i skipt out the 20 series since I did not think the performance was worth it. now with the 30 series coming out. I want to take the jump and go for a 3090. I hear people saying how older cpus will be a bottle neck in games at high frame rates. but i dont want to game on anything higher then 60fps since I will be on a 4k display that is only 60hz. so taking this into consideration Will my system be ok? and if not what is the worst that i would see performance wise?

We don't know yet, but since you will be playing on 4k, this would not matter.

4k is much much more gpu bottlenecked.
Though, you might wanna keep that 800$ and get a 3080 for 4k.
the 3090 is an 8k 60fps card.

na i know that later down the line the 3080 will not be as good.. seen that happen with the 2080ti. the supers came out..and the 2080ti remaind the top card .. plus 8k would be nice seems alot more future proof with 24gb then 10gb also

I suspect no game will take 24 gigs of vram in the next 15 years.
just not necessary.

also, the 3090 is a "BFGPU" or a "Titan replacement". not a 3080 ti replacement.
if the specs are right, it will be 15-20% faster than the 3080.
but double the price.
you're better off hoping for sli scaling and getting 2 3080s.
and you literally would not be able to get an 8k monitor in the lifespan of that gpu.

Only the 3090 will support SLI. the others wont. also there are 8k displays...and you can increese game internal resolution beyond 100% and it makes a difference on 4k. iv done it on my current card to see what it looks like as im on a 4k 55inch screen

In my opinion, upgrading from a core i7-7700K to a Ryzen 9 3900X won't increase FPS, however the game play will generally be smoother on modern games due to the higher core count. Currently I see the R9 3900X selling on Amazon for $430. Please keep in mind that the Zen 3 replacement, presumably named Ryzen 9 4900X, should be announced next month. My guess is that it'll cost $500 USD. If that interests you then you may want to wait until October and purchase both the motherboard and CPU at the same time, so that the B550 or X570 ship with the Ryzen 4000 series aware BIOS.

Me personally, I "think" that I'm going to upgrade only when the 3080 Ti releases sometime in the future. At least I think that's what I'm going to do.

well just to name one cyberpunk 2077. I see no reason to upgrade my cpu since im only limited to 60fps anyways at 4k. and not a single game i have tried so far runs badly at 1080p. its only when i increese the resolution and graphic settings i start to see frame rate drops. just to name a few that i play with fps issues when running at 4k max settings. final fantasy VII, Borderlands 3, division 2. and I know thats down to the gpu and not the cpu.

More cpu cores would be better for some games, but again, at 4k, the difference will be a few fps here and there.

maybe with simulations and realtime stratigy games but not rpgs or fps. which is what i mainly play. once resident evil 8 comes out il know if i need a new cpu or not. but either way having a 3090 over a 1080ti is going to be miles apart more so then a full system upgrade being stuck with a 1080ti.

the 3080 is not SLI. the only card that is SLI (NVLINk) is 3090 and for most consupers thats not going to be a thing since its a 3 slot card anyways
