I'm upgrading my computer which is going to involve a new MoBo, CPU,SSD and memory. I have just received the MoBo which is ASUS Z170-A , Samsung 850 Evo 250G, and DDR4 16GB sticks.

My question: Do I wait until the CPU arrives to install OS on the SSD? Does it matter if i have a fresh install on it before completing the new build?

I'm not sure if it matters, would be nice to have a head start on OS install while i wait for the brains.

Thanks for any imput.

If you are also changing the motherboard, no, this will not work.
Wait until you have ALL the new parts, assemble it, then intstall the OS.

What OS is this?

Yes, it matters.
Generally, you wait until it is built with the new hardware, and then install the OS.

ive never tried that...hmmm...install an OS without a cpu. you DO have a hdd. i would think the OS would need the cpu to set up the device manager and associated cores/hyperthreading. but with the new mobo's nowadays could be different.

unrelated but did you upgrade the psu?

No, you can't install the OS without a CPU...:)

I guess i should be more specific. I have a full set up now(im using it as i type) what i was wanting to do was install the OS on the SSD with current set up and then when CPU arrives I can tear this one apart but already have the OS on SSD. Make any sense?
