upgrades for a dell optiplex gx620

Hi i have a dell optiplex gx620 and it needs upgrades badly. it has 40Gb HDD IDE drive, Simple cd burner/reader IDE pentium 4 processor running 2.60 GHZ ddr pc3200 512MB ram i need to know how much ram it can handle what the biggest hardrive is i can put in it and can i take the motherboard out and put it in a different aftermarket case.

I can't stress enough how much a waste of anything that would be..

All upgrades would be used.
The best upgrade, would result in a computer 15 times slower than the cheapest computer you could buy at the moment.. 10 times if you buy a newer used one.

It probably can't even run win 7. and XP, has no more support.

What upgrades you can do with that computer is going to depend on which version you have. There are four different models:

1) Mini-Tower
2) Desktop
3) Small Form Factor
4) Ultra Small Form Factor

Which one do you have?

Additionally, it appears that each system can accept up to 4GB of DDR2-533/667 RAM.

The most effective upgrade is increasing the RAM. Per Dell, the max size for the HDD is 250 GB, even though a 320 GB HDD worked for me (I had a 320 GB HDD that I was not using).

This is a low power computer and I do not recommend using the motherboard elsewhere. Besides, the motherboard is BTX (not ATX).
