upgrades wanted £500 budget

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade my pc a little bit, mainly the graphics card which is a sapphire radeon hd 7870. I'm also considering a new power supply but don't want to be spending massive amounts on one. My build is the following,

intel core i5 3570k
asus p8z77-v
sapphire radeon hd 7870
silverstone tech strider 400w
8 gb crucial ballistix ram (also hoping to add another 8gb but will depend on how much I have left over from the gpu and power supply)

I would go with either a gtx 970 or a r9 390 and upgrade your psu to a 550-600 w one so that you dont have to upgrade your powersupply anytime soon

any power supply's that you would recommend? Also which of the two gpu's is better? their both a similar price so I'm not too fussed if I have to spend a little extra

If you tell me if you want a modular one or anything special i can look for one
I would recommend the r9 390 because it beats the 970 in most cases (benchmarks)
there were only one or two exceptions were the 970 got a few fps more so i would go with a R9 390

umm, actually not sure what a modular one is lol, sorry I'm moderately new to building and upgrading my pc and generally rely on others to make the choices for me based on what they think is best. Here's a list my friend picked for me http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/qyr2Mp are these any good?

If you take a look at your psu youll notice that there are a lot of cables
And a modular psu is just one where you can plug in the cables you need yourself so you dont have any unused cables in your case
And a non modular is just the opposite
The parts always depend on what your budget is
I personally would recommend the r9 390 instead of the 970
