Ok, here's one. How is it I can upgrade my tiremes to transports, but not
my Galleons?

I know certain strategic resources have to be available to a given unit for
upgrade, but
if I can upgrade one, why not another in the same class? I noticed this on
musketmen for
a few turns as well, while I could upgrade Riflemen to Infantry, the game
was not
allowing me to upgrade musketmen [to infantry]? Then, after a few turns, it
would.
I only have two disconnected cities btw, not the problem. Any ideas?

To upgrade a unit, the unit must be in a city w/ the appropriate upgrade
facility. Ground units= barracks, sea = harbor, air = airport.

You must have enough gold to do it. Civ3/PTW = 2 gold per shield cost
difference, C3C = 3 gold. Leonardos workshop halves the cost.

You must have any required strategic resources in that citys' resource
display.

Ah, this probably explains it then. I don't remember ever reading this in
the civilpedia though.
Are there other references to the game outside the civilpedia that might
carry such detailed information? Thnx for the info as this makes creating
barracks even more important to me.

Also, I always thought Leonardo's Workshop was a waste of time, so always
went for other Wonders instead. Playing first game that I built this wonder
and am finding it extremely valuable if doing any warring. I'd now put it
near the top of my list for Wonder's to shoot for. Imagine upgrading all
riflemen to infantry for just 10 shields each...nearly doubling your
defensive posture for each unit...and musketmen only 30 shields to infantry.

I don't think Leonardo's is so important unless your cities are not
very well developed. While the money savings can be great, if your
nation has the production then it should be no big deal to simply build
new units.

I agree bro. I've found Leonardo's Workshop to be a must have for either
defensive or offensive. Even upgrading Tanks to Modern Armor. I also like
to run with a good amount of gold in reserve. Last night, although I was
behind the other Civs scientifically, I was able to upgrade many of soldier
units to infantry and any aggressive posturing dissolved quickly. In a
fortified position, those infantry units can take a beating.
