Question Upgrading 8 year old gaming pc

Need a new cpu to for windows 11. Current cpu is a i5-4460. Plan to build new machine in a year or two money is tight so trying to squeeze every penny i can out of this one til then.

In order to do that upgrade you will need a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM. Given the age of the rig it would likely be best to consider all new.

There is nothing about W11 that is compelling enough to spend that much on in comparison to W10 IF your current build suits your needs otherwise. W11 is W10 with window dressing and bells and whistles. In some ways it is less desirable because of lesser user control over certain aspects, particularly privacy.

Why do you need windows 11? Win 10 still has over 2yrs worth of support left. As stated above, you would need a whole new platform, to support it.

If your motherboard supports it, I would just upgrade to a 4th gen i7, or Xeon E3 1246v3, to help with multitasking, until you can get a whole new rig.
