Upgrading a 1600x900 monitor

i'm currently running my home built system (5800k, 212 EVO, just popped in a 750 Ti) on a ~4 year old Samsung Syncmaster 21" 1600x900. What would the minimum resolution be to warrant an upgrade? I'm currently having no problems, getting playable frame rates on High-Ultra settings in some of the later AAA titles. I've been eyeing the ROG swift, though it costs a lot more than my whole computer :D I know that my 750 Ti is gonna struggle at 1440p but I'd rather run at a higher res with lower settings. All advice is appreciated. I don't really have a budget, but the ROG swift is probably as high as I'll go.

Then the 2ms response time won't make a difference. Personally I would prefer 2 1080p monitors to 1 1440p monitor, but that might just be me. For me 1440p just isn't worth that much.
I would just get a normal 1080p monitor. They are pretty cheap now, and it wouldn't make sense to get a monitor that's too good for your computer. Pretty much any monitor is good, but I would go for at least a 22" monitor. 24" is the perfect monitor size though. It's not too big, but not too small either.

Would I see a noticeable difference between 1080p and 1600x900? The number of pixels isn't much higher and the pixel density of a 24" one would probably be lower than what I'm running now. One thing I forgot to mention, my monitor is currently in a sort of cutout in my desk and there isn't much room on the side. 24" is as high as I dare go.

Yes you would. It's a big difference. I have 2 monitors setup right now and one is 1600x900 and one is 1920x1080 (not the ideal setup but it's all I have right now) and if I'm looking at one screen for awhile the other seems foreign. For example if I'm looking at the 1080p screen for awhile and I look at the 1600x900 screen it seems huge. It seems like all of the things are blown up is what I mean.

If you have a cutout in your desk I would just get a 22" monitor. It's not the best size, but at least you will know it will fit.

Or you can get this monitor: http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VX2252MH-22-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00EZSUWFG/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

It's only 1080p but you could get 2 of these for the price of 1 of those. I have one of these now and I love it. It has a better response time and it will actually fit in your desk. This is my main monitor and I'm going to be getting another one of these in a couple months.

The op said they would like 1440p. Also this monitor fits on my desk just fine and its a SMALL desk. Also anybody who tells you they can tell the difference between 6ms and 2ms is a filthy liar and needs a whoopin.

I guess, but it's still pretty expensive for a build that isn't all that amazing. Also you can tell the difference in FPS games. My other monitor had a 7ms response time and when I switched to the 2ms response time monitor I could tell the difference. It was a pretty significant difference too.

You sir/mam, are a liar and need a whoopin.

Can't you tell the difference? It's not really noticeable in games except for FPS games. Especially when you get into high action moments.

Nope. I doubt anybody HONESTLY can. Those who say they can are usually trying to justify whatever investment they just made.

I only got this monitor because it was cheap. It was actually cheaper than the version that didn't have a 2ms response time and a HDMI input. That's the only reason I got it. Not for the response time. I can 100% honestly tell the difference.

The only FPS I play is TF2, I mostly play open world or sports titles like FIFA, Sleeping Dogs and Watch_Dogs. I don't really game all that much, I mostly use my PC for watching a lot of youtube and general browsing. I really like the look of my samsung monitor, that glass at the bottom is sexy. I've seen a few Asus monitors around the $200AUD mark, 24" and 1080p looks nice.

I reckon I'm gonna stick with my old monitor for the time being, I played on 1080p with a 770 at a mate's place and I didn't really notice the difference between the two apart from the much smoother frame rate. Cheers blokes, no I have to decide who to give the best answer to.....
