Hi All, first time poster long time reader here. I'm thinking about upgrading my pc for now and then eventually seeing what options there are for new PC's in the next few years and I wanted to ask about upgrading both CPU and GPU.

My motherboard is a ROG STRIX H270F GAMING and I have a 1070GPU and intel i5 CPU. Does anyone know if it's possible to replace both of those. I think that you can't upgrade the CPU to new gens but I'm thinking about getting an i9 to extend it's life space and I wanted to see if it I would be able to get anything from the 20-series GPU.

I just can't find anywhere articles on if my mother board could support it or not.

Thanks, any help is appreciated.

Best cpu upgrade you can do is an i7 7700/7700k but price second hand wouldn't be worth it albeit the extra threads would go a long way in today's games. 7th gen i9s used a different socket/motherboard and different again for generations there after.

Gpu is no problem and you could go 3rd gen if wanted to and carry it over to a new build.

7700/7700K is last stop for that mainboard, but, not all that cost effective, and, there are better/faster options, albeit admittedly requiring expenditure on CPU and mainboard...

I'd consider trying to find a 12400F and B660 (MSI B660 Tomahawk WiFi is popular at Hardware Unboxed)

The 12400F's 6 cores/12 threads are widely considered to be at a great performance/value point, and, your GTX1070 is still decent for basic 1080P gaming in most games.... (you can jump to a 3060 or 4060 when you are able later *if/when unsatisfied with the GTX1070)
