Upgrading a Dell Dimension 5000 CPU

Hi, I have convinced my completely non tech savvy father to upgrade at least the CPU of his ancient Dell Dimension 5000 PC, it has a socket 775 motherboard and 2GB RAM. I would like to know what a decent enough dual core CPU would be, and whether there is any risk of upgrading it. Thanks.

His current CPU is an Intel Pentium 4 HT @ 2.7 Ghz, so preferably I'd like it to be at least a dual core at that clock.
