bought desktop, wanted to increase cpu and graphics, but the CPU is too big, is the stock motherboard on these too small to support new processors or do i need to find a SFF specific cpu instead?

No you cannot. You have to use a CPU that your motherboard is compatible with, such as the list rgd linked. The physical size of the motherboard is irrelevant. Otherwise, yes, you need a new motherboard that is compatible with whatever CPU you'd like to use.

If you go that route, you might as well abandon the existing system altogether since the existing mobo is non-standard so the case may not have mounting points in the proper locations for standard mobos. The power supply is junk and doesn't have a standard 24 pin plug for standard mobos, so you'll need a new PSU. Current computers use DDR4 RAM and the existing system uses DDR3, so that can't be carried over. Might as well toss the old hdd from the existing system also... you get the point.
