hello

before i get started. i already have a gaming PC and a decent laptop, this old computer is gonna be upgraded just for fun

here are the computers specs right now

model: emachines c6207
mobo: MSI RS480M
CPU: AMD athlon 64 3200+
GPU: ATI radeon xpress 200
RAM: 1.5 GB DDR
OS: currently running lubuntu
HDD: 320 GB WD SATA

so, i basically want this computer to be able to run windows 10 even though its very weak. but i think it would be cool for me to have such an old computer running a modern OS and staying up to date. i even saw a video on youtube of an athlon 64 3200+ running the sims 4 with a newer GPU perfectly.

the RAM can only be upgraded to 2 GB. but do you guys have any suggestions on what i should upgrade?

Solution

Then all you should need is more drive space.

i already said that i have a brand new gaming PC that i built myself. and i can look around ebay.

It should be upgraded to a whole other use.
Whole house firewall box, maybe. Which it would do in its current config.
Or add another drive or two, and use it as a target for daily backups.

I would not spend a dime on trying to upgrade that for 'performance'.

I actually have an old Dell Dimension E521 that has an AMD AM2 socket. A few months ago I actually decided to do an upgrade on it. And I gotta tell you I thought it was a good decision. Before I upgraded it, it was really slow and could hardly use it without freezing all the time. It had an Athlon 64 4000+ and then I went on Amazon and bought the 6000+ for only $25. As for the RAM I took it out of a junk computer that was broken and now has 4 gigs. The upgrade was very noticeable, I could actually open my web browser without it thinking for about 10 seconds. Now if I had upgraded the psu, I could've upgraded the gpu, but I didn't have much money back then so I stopped there, but the computer would have been even better.
It was a fun to upgrade an oldie and get it to run smooth again.
It just depends on you if you wanna spend some money and see how it goes.

I was actually very surprised on how cheap you can find some stuff on Amazon. Yesterday I was searching for a cpu for a lga 775 socket upgrade I'm working on and found and Intel Core2 Duo E8500 for only $10! For this socket, it is one of the best available. All you gotta do is dig a little, and just might find some very cheap parts.

No offense jdaniel 125, for some reason after reading your post I pictured the Coyote in the Roadrunner cartoon strapping on the Acme rocket motor, as I recall it didn't work too well for him!

I do understand that light bulb coming on in the brain idea of what could I do with this old Emachines computer, which in my case cost more than it was worth!

Those ideas are kinda like gas, once you let go of it, it's not a problem anymore. :)

Good Luck To You! jdaniel 125
