[SOLVED] Upgrading AMD CPU

Hi,
I'm currently running on with a B450 tomahawk Motherboard, 32gb ram and a 2080TI GPU but with only having a AMD 2700 CPU I feel like it's not running at full power.

Which CPU would you recommend upgrading to which is compatible, I've been looking at the 3700x/3800x, would I see much improvement with this upgrade? If not what should I be looking at?

Are you doing mostly gaming? If so, even a 3600 is an upgrade. The 3700x is even better and keeps you with 8 cores. The 3800x isn’t worth the money unless you get it for little more than a 3700x.

B450 with Bios updates is compatible with 3xxx series..
Depends on the game, but i think you will gain 5-15% more fps if you go with 3700x.
The latest intel's might add 5-10% on top of that, but for its not worth to change the platform for that..
Just watch some youtube comparison videos about you favorite games.

Thanks for help, I'm mostly gaming yes. I think at the moment the 3800x is only £4 more expensive than the 3700x

What resolution is your monitor? At 1440p, 4K or similar high resolutions I doubt you will see much if any improvement in FPS with a cpu upgrade.

Ok at that low resolution you might see an improvement if you went Intel i7/i9, not much but measurable. I’d wait for Ryzen 4000 series as there are claims of material IPC improvements and also small clock speed increases which may put it ahead of Intel for gaming.

Are any of your games not achieving 144fps? With a 3700x and 2080Ti it would surprise be if they are not.

The main game I play is PUBG, its averaging at about 100fps, at the minute I have the AMD Ryzen 2700 but feels like I'm not getting the best out of the 2080ti

PUBG is not going to get the best of a 2080Ti at 1080p. It’s not demanding enough on the gpu. 100FPS sounds low for your setup. What speed is your RAM and are you sure it is running at the correct speed? Also is the RAM running in dual channel mode?

I'm sorry I'm not too clued up on this, how would I check that it's running at the correct speed and dual channel mode?

I'm going to be getting the new Cyberpunk 2077 and I wanted it to be running as smooth as possible

We can’t say for certain as it’s down to MSI to release a BIOS but I would hope it is likely they will.

So I've checked the speed of my ram and it's running at 2133mhz, surely it should be 3000?
