So basically, heres my setup:
M5a78l-m usb3 asus motherboard
AMD FX 8120 eightcore
8gb ram
Nvidia gtx 650 1GB
win8.1 64bit

I want to move over to Intel for an i7/i5 for the gaming performance boost, as my 8120 gets hot, loud, and isnt that great. What do you guys recommend. Money shouldnt be too much of a problem but ~£750 would be great.

New processor, motherboard, and cpu cooler.
Added a new gpu for gaming.
Remember, since you're changing motherboards, you're going to need a new OS.

What is your psu?

realchaos has a good suggestion... though i think he's hitting at the main problem a little closer to the mark. i would definately try the gpu upgrade before throwing the system out.

Don't count me as an advocate for that old bulldozer 8 core, but you're playing with a very poor gpu too... and it might be more of the source of your poor gaming issues then the cpu. try replacing the gpu with something else like the a gtx 770... and replace your cpu cooler with something like a hyper evo 212. i am willing to bet your noise will vanish, and the system will game better. If in the end its still not good enough, then spend the bling on an intel... but i still think you'll see the best return for your $$ by replacing that gpu.
