I have an ASUS Essentio CM6730 that is completely stock at the moment. I want to upgrade it with a Radeon 4870 a friend gave me. As I understand it, this means I'll have to upgrade the power supply as well. I have been looking at Corsair, namely the CM600M and the GS600. This is my first time putting new parts into a PC and I'm a little lost. Could someone help me make sure everything is going to fit and that I haven't missed anything?

Solution
For a system using a single Radeon HD 4870 graphics card AMD specifies a minimum of a 500 Watt or greater system power supply. The power supply should also have a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 30 Amps or greater and have at least two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT the crucial factor in power supply selection!!! Sufficient Total Combined Continuous Power/Current Available on the +12V Rail(s) rated at 45°C - 50°C ambient temperature, is the most critical factor.

Overclocking of the CPU and/or GPU(s) will require an additional increase to the maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current ratings...

Overclocking of the CPU and/or GPU(s) will require an additional increase to the maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current ratings, recommended above, to meet the increase in power required for the overclock. The additional amount required will depend on the magnitude of the overclock being attempted.

The Corsair CX Series Modular CX600M (SKU# 75-002018 / CP-9020060), with its maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 46 Amps and with two (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors, is way more than sufficient to power your system configuration with a single Radeon HD 4870 graphics card.

The Corsair GS Series GS600 (SKU# 75-001181 / CP-9020012), with its maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 49 Amps and with two (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors, is way more than sufficient to power your system configuration with a single Radeon HD 4870 graphics card.

Both PSUs have exactly the same physical dimensions and should have no problem fitting into the ASUS Essentio CM6730's power supply bay.
