Upgrading an ASUS Transformer Book T100HA-DH11T-CA ?

Hi all,

Thinking about picking up one of these Transformer Books for portability to compliment my desktop and curious if anybody has any experience upgrading them?

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX60601
(I have a gift card that I'd be looking to use, otherwise I wouldn't really look at one of these).

Preloaded with Windows 10 (32 bit I believe - I think I saw that somewhere but can't confirm now) and 2GB RAM.

I would assume any license is valid for 64bit also......and according to Mr. Memory the max ram is 8GB (2x4GB 1600MHz DDR3 soDIMM)but I cant find anything definative.

So, my questions:
1. Upgrading the OS should be straightforward, right? The license key should be valid for the 64bit? Will W10 reactive 64bit from their servers if you were previously activated for 32bit?

2. Does anybody have any "hands on" experience with this unit? Possible to confirm the RAM is upgradable? I would think this would need to be low-voltage RAM, but I can't find anything to specific. Would there be any problems trying 1.5V?

You should NOT expect to be able to upgrade anything in such a small compact form factor.

Windows 32-bit and 64-bit licenses are not fungible. You cannot upgrade between them. That device already comes with Windows 10, so you should not have to upgrade anyway.

We have a $200 Asus ultrabook which is similar, but without the detachable keyboard. It's OK for what it is needed, but no match for a real notebook or a desktop. Prepare to wait for even moderately trivial operations. That Atom processor is really low-end.

Thanks for the feedback Karsten75.

My understanding of Windows licenses has always been a valid key is valid for both the 32bit & 64bit versions of the software. Ie. Windows 7 32bit key, you could install 64bit & activate with the same key. Is my understanding incorrect? Or is there something different with either Windows 10 or the hardware of this particular tablet that limits the ability?

Just to be clear, I'm not expecting to be able to upgrade anything (otherwise I would've purchased it already) and I am trying to establish the possibilities before any potential purchase.

As I mentioned, there is information available (such as Mr. Memory as an example) that allude to the possibility of a RAM upgrade. I'm not 100% convinced that would be accurate though and, while I've no specific reason to doubt Mr. Memory (it seems to review pretty well), I'm hoping somebody with "hands on" experience of this unit, or from the same model line has explored these options themselves. The outcome will determine my decision - if this unit is limited to 2GB RAM, then I would not be prepared to purchase (limited to 32bit architecture doesn't bother me too much, as 4GB RAM would be sufficient).

Curious to know if you received an answer to your question as I was trying to find the same.

I also went to Mr Memory and it suggested it could
https://www.mrmemory.co.uk/memory-ram-upgrades/asus/laptop/t100ha-transformer-book

But the explanations it provides to locate the memory module/open it up, was generic and not specific to the T100HA.

Ive not bought it yet so don't want to get it and find that Mr Memory doesn't know its facts because they won't be reimbursing me on the laptop!

Cheers

The information provided is not really true, the Transformer Book is nothing like the previous generation. It is powered by a new Intel Quad core CPU running at over 2GHz so it is quite fast and you can open the tablet case. It comes pre loaded with Windows 10 home 64 bit and I see no reason why the 2GB of ram can not be upgraded unless of course it is not socketed. If it is soldered to the motherboard then no upgrade will be possible and without opening my one I can not give you an informed reply.

But going on my experience with devices that have multiple versions normally the solid state hard drive and memory are socketed for easy upgrade at the factory when stamping the model number on the unit case and box.
