Ive got an older alienware desktop i bought for $40, area 51 7500 r5, it has a gtx 570 (also supports SLI) a core 2 duo (going to switch it with a quad q660) 4GB ddr2 (Going to put in 8) a liquid cooler (Replacing with an air cooler because the pump is broken) and it has 3 250GB HDDS (Going to put in a few terabytes) Im mostly working on this PC because why not, it also has a 950W PSU, any suggestions on what else i should put in would be great

Solution

A q6600 + 570 is fine. The q6600 is to old for modern games so upgrading the gpu is quite useless as a 570 is already reaching the max a q6600 can handle without bottle necking.

All but zero percent chance that a socket 775 alienware will hav e a bios update needed to run a modern GPU.

As far as GPU goes the best you can expect to run without bottlnecking the piss out of it would be a GTX 750 ti which frankly should only be a small step up over the 570. Unless you got the 750 for super cheap (like less then $50) the juice is not worth the squeeze so to speak.
