I'm taking an old Dell Inspiron 560 and upgrading it for fun. Thus far, I have given it both a LAN card and a GT 710, however I have not yet upgraded from the original PSU (stupid, I know). Now I have been getting a lot of micro stuttering and I would like some input into what people think may be the cause. I am pretty sure it's a PSU problem, and I would also appreciate any recommendations people have as to what type and voltage PSU I should get.
As a side note, I also realize it could be potentially dangerous for a nearly ten year old PSU to be running a new graphics card all of a sudden, so I've decided to keep the PC off for now until I figure out what to do about the PSU.
Worse yet, when I was still running it I noticed the micro stuttering getting increasingly more frequent, adding to my heightened concern of the PSU.
SYSTEM SPECS:
- PSU: Presumably 300w
- CPU: Pentium E5400
- Motherboard: Not sure of model, but default to Dell Inspiron 560
- GPU: MSI GT 710 Low Profile
- RAM: 4gb DDR3 clocked at 800mhz
I've also been looking at a particular PSU, an EVGA 400w, from Amazon. Should that cover my PC well? I do plan on upgrading the RAM too later down the road if I can get the PC running well.
