Upgrading an old Desktop (Gateway Dx4860-UB33P)

Recently my neighbor gave me his Gateway DX4860-UB33P, as he was moving for college. Now that school is out, I would like to upgrade it to be able to run more demanding games, as a bit of a pet-project over the summer. I'm pretty new to the whole PC building scene, and I would like to keep this project on Budget, so any feed back would be greatly appreciated
