I am repurposing an old HP Pavilion p6623w to study and lab for an ethical hacking IT certification. The labs require running several local VMs (in VirtualBox) on top of the local OS and some are CPU intensive based on my current setup so I'd like to provide a little more punch. I've maxed out RAM at 16GB and even put in ready boost. I decided to upgrade the CPU and I'm unsure if that will also require a heatsink/cooling fan upgrade.

I currently have the 95W AMD Athlon II X2 240e CPU

I'm upgrading to a used 95W AMD Phenom II x4 945 Deneb quad core ($40 on amazon)

Do i need a new heatsink/cooling fan for this CPU? I've tried searhing online and the HP support site but cannot determine the answer.

Solution
In general 95W -> 95W would mean its fine. Still, as you go for old thing,
AM3 125W Phenom II cooler can be found with dead systems for 3/4$, it will help to keep the system cool at full load for days....

Thanks for the quick responses jay/Rdslw. So i ran HWinfo as suggested. CPU temp on X2 is currently registering around 46-47 C. Took some snapshots and will take a read again once the x4 is in.
