Hi,
I've added to my system a new HD only to find out that my system is restricted to the 2TB limit.
Looks like it's either buying a new computer, which I would like to avoid, or upgrading my system to a UEFI instead of my current BIOS configuration.
I would appreciate your assistance in figuring out if it's just a replacement of a Mb, or an uograde of other parts as well.
My system's componenents are:

Summary

that is a great many hard drives for such a computer, may I ask what purpose the computers has, this will help define the need to upgrade maybe to a DDR3 board that would permits 8GB ram of DDR3 instead of the 4GB DDR2, and get a QX9650 to boots the cpu speed up, and permit to get over the 2TB limit. but for the price of all this (ne mobo/ram/cpu) you would be better off to be honest, get a deal on a 4th generation Board/CPU Intel I5 as a used system. or jump ship and truly get upgraded to an I3-6100 6th gen cpu/mobo.

Hi,
Can you instruct me how to partition my Seagate ST3000VX006 in GPT format?
Do I need a special program' or can it be done by MS provided tools?
I checked the options offered by AOMEI Partition Pssistant Standard and this program allows conversion berween MBR and GPT. The help files explains: "This feature could help you convert a disk with data into GPT or MBR style without data loss. Usually, here are two cases that you need to do this conversion:
1. Owing to MBR disk could only support using up to 2TB disk size, if you have a disk larger than 2TB size, the rest of the disk space could not be used unless you convert it to GPT style;
2. Generally speaking, when you encounter "GPT protective partition" that could not be accessed by XP 32-bit Version or other low-level OS, you could convert it to MBR disk."
This information doesn't imply partitioning the disk. Looks like it keeps the disk ithout changing its division.
Did I understand it right?

All I'm interested in is in extending my storage. Other than that, my computer fits my needs/

Right click start(Windows Icon on the far left of the taskbar, depending on its orientation).

Click Computer Management

Click Disk Management

Find your 3TB drive.

On the far left of that disk, where the NUMBER is, right click and select Convert to GPT.

Follow Prompts.

No special program/app needed. Windows has you covered. SHOULD have you covered.

Yes you did.

Well, I tried, but the option "Convert to GPT disk" is greyed.

You say new. That implies empty disk.

Right click the VOLUME(s)(not the far left disk) contained within the 3TB drive and delete them so the entire disk has a continuous unallocated across it. You should then be able to convert.
