Upgrading an older Aurora

I am upgrading an aline ware aurora to the Intel 980x cpu. Current memory configuration is 12gb ddr 3 1333 in 6×2 . Will upgrading to 1600 make any difference in operation or performance ?
Finally..what recommendation for gpu upgrades. I have 4 slots 1 using the sound card. If I use dual slot cards I lose sound card..
