Hello all, I have an Asus K556UQ-DM1220 that currently runs 8GB RAM but I would like to expand on that. I have visually verified that I have a free RAM slot. According to CPU-Z, currently I have an Asus X556UQK v1.0 motherboard and DDR4 8GB 1064MHz RAM.

Before I buy the wrong stuff, I'd like a bit of a consult.

1) What is the maximum amount of RAM that this motherboard can support, as I see conflicting info - some sources say 12GB while others say 16GB?

2) What MT/s speed should I go for?
Crucial have been very helpful with a wizard that tells me what RAM fits my config and among the recommendations there are 2400, 2666, and 3200. Currently I run a 1064MHz stick which I believe is equal to 2400 MT/s.

3) Crucial and HyperX are the brands that are most readily available to me. Should I choose one over the other?

Thanks all and have a great day!

Prior to any hardware upgrades, the first thing you should do is make sure you're on the latest BIOS update for your laptop. BIOS versions are listed here. Just so we're not in confusion, pass on an image of all the tabs on CPU-Z, so we can understand what processor you have to work with. This article shows you to have a 7th Gen i5 mobile processor.

You're saying that the ram on your laptop is currently soldered on, correct? If so, the max frequency for the ram will be DDR4-2133MHz and the second stick of ram will be an 8GB stick of DDR4-2133MHz ram.

Here is a LINK to screenshots of CPU Z's tabs.

To the best of my understanding the CPU you have mentioned coincides with the one I have on my laptop. Further, I don't know if the RAM I have currently is soldered on or not (although I strongly suspect that is the case), rather, I have visually verified that I have a RAM slot available.
