Question Upgrading away from Intel

Right now my gaming rig consists of a i5 6600k and a gtx 1070 FE, which I built 2 years ago.
By September I will have save up about$700.
Should I get a ASRock X470 and Ryzen 9 3900x?
Or would I get a better upgrade by going with a RTX 2080?
If you could, please register your opinion in the poll above.

Something like the 3700/3800x seems more reasonable if gaming is your main intention for the computer, especially at higher resolutions. Tons of power still there.

If you need the extra cores/power for productivity applications, go for the 3900x.

I'm upgrading my 3770k to a 3700x.

So I pulled the trigger on the ASRock X470 Master SLI/AC for $115. In order to get the bios up to it's most current state, I also grabbed a Ryzen 3 2200G for $79. Now I've just got to save like Jesus until the fall when the 3950X drops.

If you paired the 2080 with that old I5 your wouldnt see much of an improvement from the 1070 due to the weak cpu.
The Ryzen option was the right one.

Id try to reseat the ram and reseat CPU. Older slow intel ddr4 might not be a good pairing with an x470 board.
A 2200g @4ghz is about the same as your I5.
