So it's time to upgrade my gaming workhorse 950 to something a bit sexier and I've been looking into the nicely branded 1070s, but I'm struggling to sort out what my current rig can handle and what I might need to upgrade to prevent a total meltdown right now. Sidenote, it's never gonna need to run anything on Ultra/Max...it would just need to run X4: Foundations which the 950 can't.

My current specs are:
Intel Core i5-6500 3.20GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 Processor
Asus H110M-K Intel H110 (Socket 1151) DDR4 Micro ATX
Kolink KL-500 500W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
Team Group Elite 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C16 2400MHz
OcUK GeForce GTX 950 2048MB GDDR5
PCI-Express Graphics Card
Aerocool Qs-182 Micro-ATX Chassis

Any ideas? I'd rather not start over. I really want to keep the motherboard and processor at least and upgrade them a bit later. I'll be upping the ram.

You could put it in and have no issues. Your power supply isn't too good, but your system isn't supper power hungry so not a massive worry.
Check on youtube for people playing the game on a 6500 and 1070 and see if you like the performance.

You could upgrade your PSU for safety
You could upgrade your CPU to a 6700
You could upgrade to 16gb ram
Do you have to do any of these? not necessarily.

Thanks for the advice! That's a load off, I had horrible nightmares about the whole system going up in flames.

I'm definitely going up to 16gb ram and I was thinking about upgrading the PSU, but at least I don't have invest in a new CPU immediately.
