[SOLVED] Upgrading CPU for 3070

Hello everyone. I recently got my hands on an rtx 3070, but I think my CPU will bottleneck it, so im planning on upgrading that as well. My current CPU is an i5-6600k. If I upgrade I realise that I'll need to upgrade my motherboard as well. Basically, I'm asking for suggestions for a new CPU, and also a compatible motherboard. If budget allows I’d wait for the Ryzen 5600x or even 5900x if you want to go all out and pair it with a good B550 or X570 board.

Is it 2x8gb? Run userbenchmark and share the public link to the results, that will tell us more about the RAM. For a modern setup you ideally want 3200-3600mhz with a CL16 or lower. Slower RAM will impact performance for both AMD and Intel. If you have 2400mhz for example you may want to upgrade the RAM now or later.

Ok you have 2x8gb 2400mhz CL15. You can use this without a problem. However there will be lost performance. At its worst you could loose >25% but generally it’s more like >10% when using the type of RAM I suggested.

With your current CPU a RAM upgrade would be minimal benefit. Your current RAM would just stop you getting the full potential of a new CPU but a modern CPU would still be a big upgrade.

Just ask the seller to ensure the motherboard comes with a BIOS for 5000 series or get a board that has BUOS flashback and doesn’t need a cpu to update the BIOS. In the UK most shops are doing cpu and motherboard combos which ensures the motherboard is ready.
