Upgrading CPU from i7-4790 to i7-6700k

Hey guys looking to upgrade my rig. It's a pryon aquila gaming chassis, everything stock with a gtx1070. Was wondering whether I need extra Collingwood in the rig for the CPU upgrade?

You cant. The first one is socket 1150 the 2nd is 1151. Theyre not compatible with each other


If you want the 2nd cpu, you'll have to buy a socket 1151 mobo

Meant the 6700k would need ddr4

there is no way to keep series 4xxx cpu., related motherboard and DDR3 to upgrade to newer series of systems

6th and 7th gen memory and therefore motherboards use 1.2 volts and DDR3 use 1.5 and DDR3L uses 1.35 and therefore incompatible with any H,Z,B 1xx and 2xxx series motherboards.

your next step is getting 6th or 7th gen Intel or Ryzen 1500 or 1400, all will require you to purchase CPU,. Motherboard and Ram all new.

if your PC has a 4790 CPU, know it is less than 10% slower than a I7-7700 so why do you need to upgrade ?
do you have a complete listing of your system ? and what are your needs or issues making you consider an upgrade ?
