Use my PC mostly for gaming, usually just simple games like League of legends but I also have a VIVE so I'm looking for some better performance there. I know I won't see a huge change but I think this will help things run with less issues and its been a long time since I upgraded my CPU. I know there is some new RYZEN CPUs and motherboards coming out soon but I don't plan on upgrading my video card soon so I don't think this will be an issue.

Current Video card - 1060, got this a kinda recently.
Current CPU - FX8350

Thinking about getting
CPU - ryzen 2600X
MOBO - B450 TOMAHAWK
and 16 gb corsair RAM, need to upgrade to DDR4 as well.

Does this seem solid? and are their any other cheaper alternatives? budget around 500 but flexible

Thanks

The 2600X is a good match. Make sure you get 3200 MHz RAM, it's not much more expensive than base and the 2xxxx Ryzen like it a lot. The box cooler is fine too, and justifies the few bucks you'll pay for the 2600X compared with the 2600 non-X.
Motherboard is OK.
