That puts a slightly different spin on things. Information is still scarce on the new information from CPU-Z but coupled with Acer's specs of the M5100, then it would seem the motherboard can safely accommodate an AM2 CPU.

The confusing part comes to the Phenom series, because those are AM2+. On one thread it was suggested the motherboard wouldn't be able to run the Phenom at its theoretical maximum capability partly due to the BIOS.

This provides an overview, which I assume is accurate, about the supported CPUs on the original motherboard model we started with. I suspect that Acer's F690GVM is essentially identical to the Foxconn (supporting evidence).

One thread I did stumble across suggested...

I had the same issue. I did a we search and found the same as you. I guess maybe I should say the motherboard is in an acer m5100 and my research into upgrading the ram to 8 gigs was due to discovering it was the motherboard I have posted about as the Acer website said it can take a max of 4gb of ram but the foxconn website said it can take 8gb which it has now got in it. But nowhere on the Acer site can I find out about the max processor it can support. So my issue really is this. I have upgraded this pc to try and make it into a sort of mid level gaming pc for my 10 year old daughter who basically want to play games and edit videos. I have put in an xfx Radeon HD 5770 1gb ddr5 graphics card, 8gb ddr 2 ram, a 600 watt power supply and a 500gb sshd. And the only thing letting it down now is the processor.... Not by much but naturally I want my little girl to be impressed by the machine I have built for her. I know she should beore than happy with what I have done but if I can max it out I would want to.
Really appreciate you taking time out to help though.
Thank you so much for that :)

If you haven't you could download something like Speccy which can provide an oversight of your hardware specs, including motherboard model. At the very least, it could confirm the motherboard model.

From personal experience, I had a pre-built PC which used a Foxconn motherboard. But while the model number matched the one on Foxconn's site, there were several features missing on mine which the one their website had (like additional USB connectors and PCI slot if memory serves).

On an aside, the amount of RAM is limited by the motherboard and the OS. If you're still running Windows XP on the PC, then you're limited to 4 GB of RAM (well... 3.25GB) even if the motherboard is physically capable of more.

OK. Will download speccy and post the results... Unfortunately I have my daughter with me for the weekend and the pc is hidden away under her bed.... In a caravan at the moment, recently divorced and all that jazz so as it is her Xmas present I have to wait till she is back at her mom's. I do have some info though not sure it will help so will post what I have in the meantime.
And in truth the foxconn board is slightly different to the Acer version in almost the exact way you describe.
Thank you for your help. I really do appreciate it.
Oh and I'm running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit and am registering the full 8gb of Ram :)

One thread I did stumble across suggested the Phenoms would be limited in their clockspeed (either 2.2 or 2.6GHz from memory) due to the BIOS. And the motherboard seems to be confirmed as an AM2 rather than AM2+, so may lack the additional support for AM2+ CPUs.

With the Wiki I would guess a Phenom X4 9650 would still be safe (but somewhat pointless) due to the same TDP limit as the Phenom X4 9500. Beyond that... most of the Phenoms don't exceed the TDP of 125 of some of the Athlon 64 X2s. But given the slight unknown socket and the BIOS, it would be a risk.

This is all speculation based on the limited information I could gather.
