Hi.
I would like to upgrade cpu on the old toshiba satellite a60-302 laptop, socket 478.
Current cpu is:

Processor Name: Intel Celeron-2800
Original Processor Frequency: 2800.0 MHz
Original Processor Frequency [MHz]: 2800

CPU ID: 00000F29
CPU Brand Name: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.80GHz
CPU Vendor: GenuineIntel
CPU Stepping: D1
CPU Code Name: Northwood-128
CPU Technology: 130 nm
CPU S-Spec: SL77V, SL77T
CPU Thermal Design Power (TDP): 68.4 W
CPU Max. Case Temperature (Tcase_max): 75 °C
CPU Type: Production Unit
CPU Platform: Socket 478 FC-PGA2 (mPGA478B)
Microcode Update Revision: 2E

chipset:
ATI RADEON 7000 IGP (RS250M/MB) + SB200C

I found this chipset supports following cpus:
RS250M IGP 7000 (IGP 360) 2003: Pentium 4-M HT, Pentium 4, Pentium M
according to wikipedia info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ATI_chipsets

It would be used mainly for web browsing.
would there be a difference between celeron and some pentium?

Thanks.

Being that old, it's not worth the time, money or effort. You could find a cheap $50 tablet that will be multiple times better. Even upgrading the cpu, ram and ssd, you'd still be slower and not a nice browsing experience.

Thanks for the replay.
I already have a tablet.
I thought of buying one of those cpus from ebay for cheap, just don't know which one.

At $15-$20 it is not much of an expense.

When I browse the internet, I see cpu is at 90%.

FYI, the laptop has 256mb of ram so people realize how old and slow it is. My laptop that's 5 years newer has 2gb ram, 1.8ghz turion x2, and that is slow even for basic browsing with windows 7 being cut down to minimum tasks. Ram gets filled, cpu and gpu usage is maxed a lot of the time. It plays 1080p fine but browsing is more demanding, go figure.
