Question Upgrading CPU to core i9 13900k need a decent motherboard for the cpu

hello i am upgrading my cpu to core i9 13900k what would be a decent motherboard for this cpu that isn't to pricy

it depends on the prices in your country and also if you want ddr4 or ddr5
(vendors might have different "on sale" deals etc.)
anyway i would suggest ddr5 motherboard since you are buying a high end cpu
and im assuming you don´t want to upgrade any time soon .

generally speaking the cheapest good quality motherboard is gigabyte Z690 UD with 16 phase 60A VRM for the cpu and
even though it is an older chipset you don´t need the bios update and it supports ddr5 memory up to 6000MHz .

the other two motherboards that should belong into "cheap" and good category are:
gigabyte Z790 aorus elite ax with 16 phase 70A power delivery for the cpu
and asus prime Z790-A with 16 phase 60A VRM

I am upgrading to Corsair Dominator RGB 32GB (2x16GB) 5600MHz CL36 DDR5 for my new motherboard when i get it as well as a cpu to i9 13900k

My current build - I have an SSD evo and an SSD nvme m.2 as well as an HDD
cpu is core i9 9900k and 32gb ddr4 as for the motherboard it is an asus rog strix z390 - h gaming and graphics card 3080 rtx which i am keeping also including 4-5 fans in the case

i was looking at this motherboard for the upgrade ASRock Z790 Pro RS DDR5 Motherboard any thoughts?

In regards to the motherboards u mentioned the asus prime Z790-A ASUS Prime Z790-A Wi-Fi CSM DDR5 Motherboard cost`s $579 for me which is a bit to expensive
for the other one mentioned gigabyte Z790 aorus elite ax Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX DDR5 Motherboard this costs $549 for me as well

I'm running an Asrock Z690 Steel Legend in DDR4 that I really like. I think I paid $170 on sale at Microcenter. If I didn't get this, there were some MSI boards I was kind of leaning towards. You don't need to spend an arm and a leg to get a decent board. Maybe check out the Z790 Steel Legend from Asrock? It's less than $300.

If budget is an issue, consider building based on reusing your DDR4 ram.
Performance between ddr4 and ddr5 is essentially the same.

How can that be?? DDR5 speeds are much higher, but it comes at a cost of higher latency that eats away at the performance.
DDR4 motherboards will usually be cheaper.
Your 3200 speed DDR4 ram would work just fine.

One thing to look at on a motherboard is how many and what type of usb slots it has on the back. I noticed that difference on the two referenced boards.

How many expansion of the 7 ATX slots will you actually use? For most, it will be the single X16 slot for the graphics card.
A MATX size motherboard will be cheaper.

Wifi included is convenient, but an adapter card is cheap.

Today, processor chips are binned and the more capable chips are used in higher performing(and more expensive) models.
As a result, overclocking will not yield the results that it used to.
It is usually best to use the advanced turbo mechanism that can boost a core or two past what an all core oc could do.
To that end, a B660 or B760 based motherboard will perform similarly and be less expensive.
Compare a ASrock Z690 steel legend wifi DDR4 motherboard to the ddr5 version:

Go with a 7900x then and upgrade it when the new chips come out then........you can wait 2 years upgrade the cpu without a rebuild

In which case, look at the I9-13900KS.

Or hold out for the X3D release in 2-3 weeks. Should be top of the heap by a good margin (assuming everything goes as planned) if you play the games that can use the extra cache.. shouldn't need a super fancy motherboard.

The only decent board I could find in your price range is the MSI Pro. Seeing how this is a gaming build I would give the i7 13700K / KF a good look.
