Just wandering which one is better for gaming...
Neither. Game performance is practically identical.
But, if you have a game that actually manages to run 12 threads - that ISN'T Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation - then a 3700X would pull ahead.

possibly recording and streaming.
No difference unless you can somehow use that many threads(3700X) during a streaming session:
Say you use 8 threads during a multiplayer game. With the 3600, you still have 4 left for the stream...

3700X is kind of an oddball. It won't perform any better than the 3600X until you exceed a certain threshold, otherwise it's not really worth it over the 3600X.
Use some of that 100USD difference and maybe put it towards another SSD or something.

Don't get the 3600X, you can get the same performance out of a 3600. But yeah for gaming, they both perform somewhat the same atm. But with newer games might focus on more cores, so the 3700X should be more future proof I guess.

My guess is that the 3700X might be able to have a decent performance over the 3600 in a few years on the newest games, but except if you have unlimited money, go for a 3600.

Dilemma. 7 years ago, everybody said get the i5-3570k quad thread, as that was all that was needed and performance was the same as the i7-3770K, so no need to spend the extra $100, waste of money.

Today, I'm still happily gaming on my i7-3770K, my i5-3570k long since retired since quads aren't really viable anymore according to software needs.

So, 3600x at 12 threads or spend extra $100 for 3700x and 16 threads. All you really need right now is the 3600x, it gets the same performance ± as the 3700x, has plenty of threads for current software and gaming. Tomorrow might be a different story as software is constantly evolving, games are using more and more threads to compensate for lack of clockspeeds and IPC vs increasing amounts of data per frame.

It's a gamble. It might payoff in the coming years, it might not. Up to you.

You could also get the 3600 to free up room in the budget if needed.

I currently have an i3 2120 lga 1155 and want to upgrade my cpu and also have radeon rx 580 8gb gpu not installed yet. Curious which cpu would be the best for gaming I only play MTG Arena and final fantasy 14 online currently as I'm new to pc gaming.
