I am not terribly knowledgeable when it comes to CPU's is there one that is favoured over another? There are at least 5 i9 that are compatible with your motherboard, what model do you want to buy precisely?

You likely have your own definition of “worth it”, which is unknown to others.
10900 has a 7.5% higher single thread score on a well-known benchmark.
10900 has a 6.1 % higher multi-core thread score on that same benchmark.
You don’t mention your purposes for this proposed upgrade.
Some people will go to great lengths for a gain of 2 frames per second or for a 2% gain in some benchmark. If that describes you, then the 10900 would be “worth it”.
I have no idea what you are willing to spend. A new motherboard would upgrade you even farther.
Wow that is all food for thought, thanks for all that, appreciate it!The advantage you get with I9 is more threads.
The performance for most games will be identical.
Only if you play multiplayer would the added threads come into play.
Here are the passmark ratings:

Worth is something only YOU can determine.
If you are willing to spend $400, it would be better spent on a a $200 I5-12400 with a better passmark rating for gaming:

A B660 or Z690 motherboard will be $150-$200.
Better, yet, a $280 I5-12600K
