Upgrading DDR2 from extinct 2x2 1066 sticks to 8 GB: should I try to match the 2x2 1066 or just get two new 800 2x2s

The price of either option is about the same.

I have an old Asus P5Q, P45 chip, running Vista 64 bit. It's a custom build from AVA Direct still running the original 2x2GB Kingston HyperX DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15. I need to upgrade to 8 GB since the PC is now often painfully slow. I don't want to spend much more than $100 on this old system and I think I've narrowed it down to a couple options:

1) try to match the Kingston 2x2 1066 with this seemingly compatible 1066 2x2: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15 $95 (part: F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK)

2) get 2x(2x2) of 800 mhz RAM, in particular: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 5-5-5-15 ($51 x 2 = $102) (part: F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ)

I am leaning towards option 2 in the interest of keeping things simple and also because of my understanding that 1066 is not that massive an improvement over 800. I would be interested to hear your more knowledgeable thoughts.

Is another option to buy only 1 of the G.SKILL 2x2 DDR2 800 sets and see how it plays with the existing Kingston 1066?

Like I said, that garbage will not be getting any faster even with new memory. The only thing that might help is just reformatting and cleaning out the clutter, and preferably upgrading to Win 7 or 10.
