Hi,
I have an old Toshiba Portege R500.
In the specs it says that the maximum ram that it can have is 2GB.
It says that it is capable of 64-bit Computing. So if I install either Window 10 64bit or a Linux OS I will be able to put it 4 GB of RAM?

It only has 1 slot for ram.
Here are the specs for RAM, I got it from this site that has all the specs on this computer
MEMORY
  • RAM 1 GB (1 x 1 GB)
  • Max Supported Size 2 GB
  • Technology DDR2 SDRAM
  • Speed 667 MHz / PC2-5300 - 667 MHz
  • Slots Qty 1
  • Empty Slots 1
Thanks

Solution
Thanks.
It a nice light laptop, hopefully I can find some good use for it.

If you want a small cheap system that will run 64 bit OS and can take 8 gb of ram, Lenovo X201 will fit the bill, they should be in the $100 range. Core 2 system with 2 gb of DDR2 RAM is not usable for much these days.
