Hi I was given an old Optiplex 7010 and I am looking to upgrade it as best I can for a decent cheap machine for video and gaming. I bought an i7 3770 but as of yet not booting up and just a slow orange flashing light.

Current setup

Mobo : Dell OKRC95 Q77 1155 LGA
Current Processor : i3 2120
8gb ram

any ideas? is the CPU i bought most likely just dead?
Updated Bios as coming from a previous gereration sandy bridge to Ivy bridge the system might not recognise it.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Look in the online manual for how to reset the BIOS to default settings. usually a jumper for this. Or remove the MB battery for 30 seconds. This will clear any settings from the old CPU. The amber flashing light on those gives trouble codes based on the pattern it's flashing. Again refer to the manual for the specific version of that system that you have.
