Currently, I have a Duron 700 Mhz Slot A and I want to upgrade to a 1.4 Ghz Athlon Thunderbird. I have checked my clock multipliers which are 7x and my bus speed which is 200 Mhz so I thought I could upgrade (7 * 200 = 1400), but then I saw my core voltage was only 1.6 volts so I don't know if I can upgrade because of that.

Errr...slot A? Or Socket A?

If it's a Slot A (looks like a mini-brick with its edge on the motherboard), you might as well just switch to a Socket A mobo when you upgrade. The Slot A CPUs only got up to 1GHz and are generally so much more expensive that it's cheaper to buy a Socket A chip and mobo anyways. Plus, AFAIK there are no "slocket" converters for the Athlons.

If it's a Socket A (looks like a little square laying flat on the mobo), I'd still change motherboards. I'm a little rusty on this, but 1.6V doesn't sound like it will take you far beyond 800MHz...
