Hi All,

Im looking to upgrade my existing system as some parts are super old, and some parts are starting to fail, and I have a budget of about $1000 to work with, but would prefer to spend less if possible. I have been out of the system building business for a while, so any advice would be helpful.

Here is my current build and what I plan on replacing:

Acer Predator XB271HU - Monitor running 1440p 144hz - Keep
Phanteks Enthoo Pro - Case - Keep
MSI GTX 970 4GB - Selling
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB - Keep
Western Digital 1TB HDD - Keep
EVGA SuperNOVA 850 - Keep but not sure
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 motherboard - Replacing
Core i5 2500k cpu - Replacing
G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB DDR3 - Going out, only 1 still works and old so replacing

Was looking to replace with the following:

MSI Armor RTX 2070 8GB
Intel i5 8400 or 8600k
MSI Z370 Gaming Plus Motherboard
Patriot 16GB DDR4 3400Mhz
This works out on Amazon to be right around $1000 depending on specials.

I wanted to know if this setup would work together, or if there is anything that will bottleneck with 1440p 144hz gaming. Dont plan on going 4k gaming, but might do a bit of VR.

Main thing I have no clue about is about the processors with the release of Ryzen cpu's if I would benefit or get a cheaper build with similar performance going with a Ryzen CPU and mobo or if the core i5 8400, 8600 or even the 9600k would be better for my goal. I dont plan on overclocking, hopefully I wont have to with this setup for a while, but who knows may want to in the future which is why the K chips are optional. The prices are very similar tho, so might be worth it.

Thanks for any assistance given!
